Nifty Gateway has announced it will shut down operations by February 23, 2026, according to a January 24 blog post. The platform is now in withdrawal-only mode, with users being emailed instructions to move any remaining USD, ETH, or NFTs off the site. It remains unclear whether access to custodied assets will be permanently lost after the shutdown date.
Launched in 2020, Nifty Gateway was founded by twins Duncan Cock Foster and Griffin Cock Foster, before being acquired in 2019 by Gemini, owned by Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss.
The platform stood out for its curated, centralized approach, hosting exclusive NFT drops from artists like Beeple, Pak, and Refik Anadol, while allowing purchases via credit cards and crypto. Over its lifetime, Nifty Gateway reportedly paid more than $372 million in artist royalties.
Once a flagship platform of the 2021 NFT boom, Nifty Gateway played a major role in bringing digital art into the mainstream. Its closure signals the end of the early, high-hype era of curated NFT marketplaces.
